What a great April we had, fantastic weather and some great golf. Let's hope the two combine for the rest of the year.
Ok, opening day was won by our part time Bar Steward, Mike Hughes, and Brian 'Two Jobs' Evans, with an impressive 43 points.
The green staff started a shaping of the fairway experiment, which looked, and continues to look pretty impressive. Whilst on the subject the course is looking pretty impressive all round, including the new 9th green. Congrats to the green staff!
24 members attended the Alliance meeting at Aberystwyth; a monumental effort by myself and partner John 'Portugese' Jones, hitting 4 pars and 5 birdies in the morning Texas Scramble, but were pipped to the post by Mr Phil James & Paul Exton, Rob Cleaves &. Phil, who recently became a full time player after retiring as our local friendly turf accountant, remarked "I don't know what all the fuss is about, i'm only the pro, it was easy out there". Tony 'The Bear' Evans said "they did not hit a proper golf shot for the first five holes", parring in from that. The afternoon 4 ball better ball sweep was won by Lynton Phillips & Clive Pearson (65), second Richard Davies & Johnny Jones, Wayne Gittoes & Elved Williams, Tony evans & Roger Jones (67). Overall results as follows:

A complete contrast from April, almost 3 weeks of rain is about all you can say about May. There was the usual manic week for all the first round matchplays having to be played by the 21st, congratulations to all the winners, for everyone else there's always the Captains Plate.
Friday the 13th proved to be anything but unlucky for our Hannah Jenkins, as she became Monmouthshire County Champion, well done Hannah for a great achievement.
The Wayfarers continue with great form winning their last three matches. Team captain Tony "Tanky" Payne has been working really hard on the driving range and in the gym for the past 4 weeks to get his handicap back to 10 to be eligible to play!! Well done Tony and Ken Jenkins (handicap sec) in achieving this!!
The Hallets are struggling to get a team out so anybody with a handicap of 18 or more get in touch with Mike Mellors or Frank Greaney, you get to play some great courses, and it's free!!
120 brave souls braved the weather on Sunday the 27th for the Mid Wales Alliance 4BBB at Cradoc. The best score of the day was 66 (2 lads from Welshpool), but the round of the day had to come from W Johnny Jones and your Pro Richy Davies with a magnificent 67, pipping John 'Bin Laden' James and Roger 'The Dodger' Jones back on 68.
June is a really good month for golf, members & guests is on the 3rd and there are still a few spaces left in the morning.
The Bank Holiday Scramble was a great day, over 100 played with Hannah Jenkins, Tanky Payne, Gareth & Bryn Powell winning, shooting a very impressive 59 gross (12 under!). Glad to see Bryn has still got those big shoulders!
